I communicate through my work and I also create originial art. Through my work the audience can tell that I enjoy Christmas as well as adoring my cat. I created original art by comparing my cat to the Grinch. He is wearing the hat like the Grinch did and he has a similar expression to the Grinch. I added the lights to add a more "Christmasy" effect which I like because the green adds to the Grinch impression. I also solved problems by taking the photos quickly. My cat would not stay still for very long so I had to use a low shutter speed and try to keep him still. I like how my photo turned out because I think it captures my cat's personality as well as capturing the Christmas spirit. I made it into a Christmas card that people would send in the mail.
The top photo is our family tradition of lighting the advent candles each Sunday before Christmas. The bottom photo shows the tradition of receiving a new ornament each Christmas that represents something new that happened in the past year. I reflected on the top photo after I attempted to take the photo multiple times. I had to decide which composition I liked the best because I wanted the audience to understand our family tradition. I solved problems in the bottom photo because of the lighting. The roon was very dark so I had to use a tripod to capture the photo without it being blury or too dark.
Traditions that we celebrate are lighting advent candles, getting a new ornament that represents something exciting that happened during the year and receiving pajamas from “Santa” before Christmas for us to wear Christmas Eve.
The topic I am doing for my tradition photo is the tradition about receiving ornaments each Christmas that represent something new from the past year such as a vacation or a new hobby. For the photo above, I found it on google when I searched ornament photography. It is related to my theme because it is an ornament that could mean something to the person that owns it. It could have a past story such as their first snow fall or a blizzard that happened. I like this work because of the lighting, color scheme, detail in the ornament and depth of field. However I dislike that the color of the snowflake and the color of the lights beneath it are so similar. It makes it difficult to decipher what is part of the ornament. In order to fix that I would have changed the angle a little so the two similar colors were further apart. In my work I will try to include the depth of field and similar lighting. I would also like to create a color scheme because I believe that makes the photograph more appealing. For my shelter photo I chose to photograph a bird house, I saw this as shelter because this is wear the birds keep there nests; it acts as protection for them and that is what a shelter should do- protect you. I collaborated and solved problems during this project. I solved problems by fixing my angle while I was taking the picture. The sun was shining too bright so where I was standing before there was a noticable shadow and I did not want that in my photo. To fix that i changed my angle a little bit. I collaborated by receiving feedback from another student. I was stuck between two shelter photos in which both has pros and cons. Hannah helped me figure out which "pros" were more important. I chose this photo because the photo is more in focus and there is no noise to be seen... sometimes simple is best.
