I chose Michelle Morrison as my inspiring artist. She is actually my friends mom and is the one who inspired me to start taking more pictures. I like her pictures because she photographs her daily life but all of her photos are still very vibrant and interesting. Her Instagram is @michellemorrisonphotography.
For my project I used the value of passion and love. In my photos I tried to express the passion and love that my friend Eve, has for her horse. During this project I developed my art making skills and I took risks as well. I developed my art making skills by trying a new Photoshop technique where I made the backgrounds black and added shadows so it looked like it was photographed on a black background. I took risks because I wasn't sure how realistic the photo editing would turn out. I also took risks by trying something new. Although these edits take some time and it took me a while to get the hang of it, I am really thrilled with how they are turning out.
This explains me 100% because all of the words represent me. I am a mother figure to all of my friends, I am also very organized and sociable. I believe that family is very important and that people should have strong values. I love working with others and I respect them and the differences between us. I also love to help people. However, sometimes I am not energetic or decisive. Most of the words show the real me and represent my personality.
My vision for disguise was to show the real personality of someone and then show the personality that they show others which is their disguise. On the right is the personality that everyone sees on the outside, the happy, confident person. On the left is the true personality, the upset and depressed personality. The center photo is the life that that person lives, half depressed and then half trying to be happy. I communicate through my work by trying to show the disguises that some people go through every day. This corresponds with the issues of abuse, bullying and depression. I solved problems by finding a way to show happy vs. depressed using makeup, it was difficult because I am not a makeup artist, but I solved problems in that way. I also had a lot of trouble with the lighting because I wanted to shoot outside but it was very sunny so there were shadows being cast, I tried to find an angle where there was good lighting and not too many shadows.
For the piece on the left, I really like how the pictures alternate between it being her and the animal/. The piece on the left I find very interesting because it is abstract and you really have to look at the photo to realize what is happening and what is being disguised. On the left, I particularly like how it is a series and how the "subject" changes. On the right, I like how it is all of someones face but in different parts positioned abstractly. On the left, the only thing I dislike is the color/lighting, I think the lighting and it in B&W could give a better "vibe". On the right, I do not dislike anything about the photo, I find it very interesting. On the left, disguise reveals what she truly is and what her outside shows, she changes personalities. On the right, the woman is disguised as herself but the photo is manipulated for people to decide what the meaning is.
For my final project I am considering showing the real "personality" of a person and then the "personality" that others see. I am going to do this with makeup and photograph two different sides of the face with different ideas on each side and then take one photo of the subject with both "personalities" on it. This represents disguise because the one side is who the person truly is while the other side is her disguise or what that person acts like to people that don't really know them. To accomplish my goals I will need a model (my friend), makeup, nail polish and sharpies; along with a camera and outdoor lighting. |
